Blondie and Pretenders at Bimbadgen Estate

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010
Blondie and Pretenders at Bimbadgen Estate Pokolbin

Saturday December 11, 2010

Accommodation Package price is $700.00 per two persons, per room, for accommodation Friday 10th December and Saturday11th December 2010, including a continental breakfast provided in your room, an on arrival complimentary mini bar and  tastings of our own Patrick Plains Estate Shiraz from our own working vineyard

Blondie and Pretenders rock Bimbadgen

They’re two of music’s most acclaimed bands boasting two of music’s most compelling front women – Deborah Harry leading the wondrous Blondie and Chrissie Hynde fronting the mighty Pretenders.

As a double-bill, it’s a world first! It’s also an absolute cracker and that’s exactly what fans can savour when Blondie & The Pretenders co-headline a November/December tour of ‘a day on the green’ winery shows in all states and, in conjunction with Frontier Touring, theatre shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra.

This very special double header launches the 2010/2011 ‘a day on the green’ season, the event’s 10th anniversary. A bumper summer of concerts are planned to celebrate this significant milestone, so let’s get the partee started!

Both The Pretenders and Blondie have enjoyed great success in Australia, fuelled by a stream of timeless Top Ten hits and the popularity of Hynde and Harry. Both ladies have always escaped the usual clichés of women in rock and are unquestionably two of the most important and influential women to have graced the stage. As co-headliners, the bands will alternate in closing the shows.

Blondie emerged from the late 70’s New York punk scene and quickly became music, style and pop culture icons selling more than 40 million albums. They scored hits with reggae, rock/disco, hip hop and pop songs bursting with great hooks and brilliant, ironic lyrics. ‘Heart Of Glass’ was Blondie’s first US #1 in 1978 opening the floodgates to a run of 14 Top Ten US hits including ‘The Tide Is High’, ‘Call Me’, ‘Rapture’, ‘Picture This’, ‘Rip her To Shreds’, ‘Hanging On The Telephone’, ‘Union City Blues’ and ‘Atomic’ , racking up a phenomenal five US and five UK number one singles.

Debbie, founding member & song writing partner Chris Stein and long-time drummer Clem Burke have just completed their first new album in six years titled ‘Panic Of Girls’, set for release later this year, and on June 8 commence a world tour in the UK.

Australia has always had a special place in the band’s heart, being the first country in the world to give them commercial success when Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum mistakenly played ‘In The Flesh’ (the B side of a single) on Countdown in 1976. After a 25 year hiatus, Blondie toured Australia five years ago and can’t wait to get back.

When co-headliners The Pretenders last toured with ‘a day on the green’ three years ago, Chrissie Hynde declared the concerts ‘some of our favourite shows of all time’. “I am so excited to be coming back to Australia – some of the most fun audiences we’ve ever had – and the beautiful countryside! Yes, we can’t wait to rock out down under. See you soon you crazy Aussies!!”

The Pretenders are undoubtedly a special band with a special place in history. Their brand new live CD & DVD ‘Pretenders-Live In London’ (Liberator) captures one of their many electrifying performances and is a timely reminder of what a great rock band they are. With hits like ‘Talk Of The Town’, ‘Kid’, ‘Back On The Chain Gang’, ‘Don’t Get Me Wrong’, ‘Middle Of The Road’, ‘Message Of Love’, ‘ I’ll Stand By You’, ‘Stop Your Sobbing’ and ‘Brass In Pocket’, The Pretenders may have been rockin’ for 30 years but their authenticity has never diminished.

As always ‘a day on the green’ is pleased to showcase two Australian artists as support acts, Melbourne five-piece Little Red and Magic Dirt’s Adalita.

Little Red boasts three lead singers and a feel-good mix of back to basic rawness with timeless classicism. They’ve toured the country and played many of Australia’s premiere music festivals to glowing reviews and lots of dancing. With a brand new album slated for release later this year and a UK tour imminent, Little Red look set to follow on from the success of their 2008 debut ‘Listen To Little Red’ in a major way this year. Little Red will perform at all winery shows.

After being at the forefront of the Australian rock scene for more than a decade with iconic rock band Magic Dirt, lead singer Adalita has taken time out to record her first solo album, due out soon. The singer/guitarist played her first ever solo shows last year where she initiated new and old fans with her brilliant new songs and trademark powerful vocals. Adalita will open all shows, winery and theatres.

Jazz in the Vines

Saturday 30th October 2010

Wow it’s the 50th anniversary of Motown this year so I thought it would be a great idea to infuse Jazz in the Vines with the music from this great record label. From 1961 to 1971, Motown had 110 top 10 American hits, and artists such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, The Four Tops, and The Jackson 5, were all signed to Motown labels. I’m not the only one to think this is a great idea, James Morrison has been incorporating Motown hits in his performances for years as has Kate Ceberano and Doug Parkinson. It’s great to have them all here at Jazz in the Vines to perform some soul, r&b and, of course, Jazz for us this year.

Come by yourself or grab some friends and join in this party that we call Jazz in the Vines, come in fancy dress (plenty do), bring a blanket or a deck chair, settle back and relax or dance till you drop, the choice is yours. One thing is for certain, there will be plenty of great Hunter Valley food and wine to enjoy, lots of people to meet and good time to enjoy. If it’s your first time check out the video at the bottom of the page or the photos galleries from previous years to get a feel for what we are all about.

See you on October 30th 2010!

Simply Red Farewell – The Final Tour with special guest Marcia Hines

Simply Red Bring The Curtain Down After 25 Years

“Welcome to the final year of twenty-five mind-blowing years,” says Mick Hucknall of Simply Red’s final shows. “What an adventure it has been!”

Roundhouse Entertainment and Michael Coppel Presents is pleased to announce Simply Red’s legions of Australian fans will have the opportunity to say a final goodbye when the band’s Farewell World Tour reaches Australia this October.

Simply Red will play their very last concerts here as a series of indoor shows and a day on the green winery events nationally. The tour’s very special guest will be Australia’s favourite Queen of Soul and disco diva Marcia Hines.

Simply Red’s classic pop and elegant ballads have provided an uplifting and emotional soundtrack to our turbulent times. The band is saying their farewells all over the world this year after what has been a remarkable 25 years. Their final show will be at London’s O2 Arena on December 19.

“I could never have imagined my career would bring me so far,” Mick Hucknall said. “We want to share this closing anniversary with all the people who have enjoyed our sound throughout the years. Celebrate it and gently move on to the second half of a musical story. We all hope to see you at a show somewhere soon.”

Since their first tour in 1985, Simply Red have played over 1,100 shows to over 11 million people, notched up over 55 million global sales, over 31 Top 40 UK singles, 3 BRIT Awards, 2 Ivor Novellos, 2 US No.1 Singles and a MOBO Special Achievement.

Fronted by the charismatic Mick Hucknall, Simply Red grew out of Manchester and their first UK university/club tour in 1985 and quickly graduated to Europe and the USA in 1986. By 1987 they had conquered New Zealand and Australia and in 1989 they toured South America and Japan for the first time. By 1990 they had become a true global arena act and continued at that level until this day. Last year’s Greatest Hits tour notched up a further 1 million people across the world.

Simply Red has dominated Australian charts from early albums Picture Book (1985) and Men And Women (1987) to the juggernaut’s The New Flame (1989) and Stars (1991). The Farewell Tour showcases all their amazing hits including Money’s Too Tight To Mention, Holding Back The Years, The Right Thing, Stars, Fairground, If You Don’t Know Me By Now, Something Got Me Started, A New Flame and Sunrise.

MARCIA HINES, Australia’s favourite disco diva and celebrated singer, will be the tour’s special guest. With seven top 10 hits between 1975-1981 and hits across four decades, Marcia was a hugely popular inductee into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2007. She is currently working on a new album “Marcia Sings Tapestry and the Songs of Carole King”, set for release later this year.

We know her as Australia’s undisputed Queen of Soul, stage musical star, chart-topper, hit-maker, dance floor diva and most recently, the voice of reason on Australian Idol’s judging panel, but live performance is what Marcia loves best and she is very much looking forward to the tour.

ROSS WILSON will open the two NSW concerts in the Hunter Valley and Bowral. The July 16 release of his 15th studio album “I Come In Peace” is a testament to Ross’s longevity and his ability to keep producing music that is as relevant in 2010 as it was 1964 when it all began. Produced by Mark Moffatt, and recorded in Nashville & Melbourne in late 2009, “I Come In Peace” is Ross’ first new album in 8 years and features 11 new songs that have Wilson’s sublime song-writing touch all over them

When the band toured with a day on the green early 2009, the sold out conerts were amongst the fastest selling shows in our 10 year history.

Dont miss the chance to say one final farewell to one of the most successful and acclaimed bands of the modern era
